Das Lexikon der Ägyptologie (abgekürzt LÄ) ist ein umfangreiches und umfassendes Fachlexikon zur Ägyptologie, das von 1975 bis 1992 erschien. Daneben erschien Das Kleine Lexikon der Ägyptologie als kompakte, modernisierte, auch für Privatpersonen erschwingliche Ausgabe.
Bereits 1960 begannen die Vorarbeiten zum ersten Band durch Wolfgang Helck und Eberhard Otto, der als Gründer und Hauptherausgeber des Lexikons gilt. Nach dem Tod von Eberhard Otto im Oktober 1974, kurz vor Abschluss des ersten Bandes, sprang Wolfhart Westendorf als Mitherausgeber ein. Insgesamt erschienen im Harrassowitz-Verlag sechs Bände, die durch einen Indexband sowie einen Band für Nachträge und Korrekturen ergänzt wurden.
Das Lexikon der Ägyptologie dient nach eigenen Angaben der Darstellung von Kultur und Geschichte des pharaonischen Ägypten. Nicht berücksichtigt werden dabei die griechisch-römische Zeit, das christliche Ägypten sowie das „Nachleben“ der ägyptischen Kultur. An dem Lexikon haben 277 Wissenschaftler, meist aus dem engeren Fachgebiet, aber auch aus Nachbardisziplinen mitgearbeitet. Die 3233 insgesamt enthaltenen Artikel sind überwiegend in deutsch verfasst, es finden sich daneben auch viele englische, seltener französische Artikel.
Das Lexikon wurde nicht erstellt, um einen einheitlichen, konsistenten Wissenstand bereitzustellen, sondern enthält bewusst widersprechende Meinungen und Auffassungen.

The Encyclopedia of Egyptology is claims to be the representation of history and culture of Pharaonic Egypt. This does not include the Greco- Roman period , Christian Egypt, and the " afterlife " of the Egyptian culture. To the lexicon have 277 scientists worked mostly from the narrow area of expertise, but also from neighboring disciplines. The article contained a total of 3233 are mostly written in German , it can be found next to many English , French rare items .
The lexicon was not created to provide a uniform and consistent knowledge , but contains deliberately contradictory opinions and views .

An exclusive amended edition
List of amendments:
1. Ink smearing and black borders have been removed from all pages.
2. Test color has been enhanced, thus the text is now clearer.
3. The old edition had every volume split into several PDF files. Those have been put together to create a single PDF file for each volume.
4. The total file size that reached 992 MB has been reduced to only 117 MB without harming the quality
